Beta/Cheerleader Sign-up 2014
Apr. 30th, 2014 10:43 pmIf you'd like to volunteer as a beta reader or a cheerleader, please sign up below. Please note that signing up doesn't ensure that you'll get paired with a story - authors are free to contact whichever beta or cheerleader they think might help them the best, and your particular skills might not match with what our authors need. We thank everyone for volunteering their time and skills, but we can't ensure that every volunteer will be matched with a story.
Sign-ups close 6 September.

Are you signing up as a beta or a cheerleader?: both I guess? Definitely can do beta duties, but let me know what specific cheerleader duties you need me to fulfill and I'll cover it too!
What fandom(s) do you want to work with?: Any DC verse that isn't Nolan-verse or Man of Steel verse. I can most comfortably work with Bat-family, GL:TAS, Static Shock cartoon, and YJ cartoon, and I have approximate knowledge about most all DC comics pre!nu52 -- so I'm honestly willing to read anything from Teen Titans or Young Justice (the comic) to idk Arrow family and Jaime Reyes!Blue Beetle. I might ask questions if I run across things I'm not familiar with in these old comics' canon. DCAU is also fine, as well as any DC animated movie.
What pairings and genres are you willing to read?: Any, honestly.
What are your strengths as a beta reader?: I focus a lot on pacing and flow of a story, and I think a second set of eyes new to the story can help you solidify the plot and fix any important plot holes and infuriating fridge logic that you as the writer might not see. I can do basic grammar i.e. if it doesn't sound right I'll let you know (but really technical grammar -- when to use a semi-colon or colon, how to not comma splice -- is not my forte). As for characterization, I think it's really really important but I'm always afraid that my characterization is off/realize that with the lengthy history of comics and the various writers and story arcs and AUs and multiverse etc., characterization for these characters can get complicated. I think it's most important that you look at the most base characterization of comics characters you can find and then choose how to interpret that characterization for your story as you think best and see fit, and then just make sure that you stick to *that* characterization throughout your story. So that's the approach I will take in beta-ing your story for characterization.
What kind of turnaround time can an author expect from you? (give a rough estimate - how quickly can you work through a 10k story?)
In crunch time 2-3 days, but I'd prefer to work in something more like a week.

Are you signing up as a beta or a cheerleader?: Mostly as a beta but can do cheerleading duties!
What fandom(s) do you want to work with? I'm the most comfortable with the Batfam, DCAU (so Justice League, Batman Beyond, and Static Shock), and Teen Titans (the show), but I have at least some knowledge of most verses, both pre and current New 52, so if I don't know something I can definitely find the material or read up on it on Wiki.
What pairings and genres are you willing to read? Anything.
What are your strengths as a beta reader? Grammar, typos, finding and fixing plot holes, characterization, and I'm always up for bouncing ideas back and forth and just generally being a sounding board.
What kind of turnaround time can an author expect from you? If need be, I can edit a 10k fic in 2 days but I'd rather be given at least a week.

Are you signing up as a beta or a cheerleader?:Beta, not sure what a chearleader does, might be able to do that too
What fandom(s) do you want to work with? preboot DC, especially Young Justice/Teen Titans and the Batfamily, but I also like Supers and Arrows. Teen Titan, Young Justice, Batman: TAS, and JL(U) cartoons. I can do reboot Batfamily but might have a few questions
What pairings and genres are you willing to read? I love gen, but can do anything but horror and heavy violence. Probably wouldn't enjoy explicit scenes very much, but it's a possibility
What are your strengths as a beta reader? I'm good with grammar and story flow. I usually don't comment on plot or characterization, but would be glad to if you wanted.
What kind of turnaround time can an author expect from you? Usually a day or two for 10K, but I can be inconsistent. Definitely a week or less.
