Hello everyone! I apologize for the lateness of this, real life hit very hard last month. The check-in and date claiming period will run from now through October 12th, to give everyone time to check-in and contact their groups to claim a reveal date!

This is our very last check-in for DCU Bang! That's right, we're nearing the end of DCU Bang 2020! I'm so excited to see what everyone has been working on, and I've been very impressed as well with all of the hardwork and dedication to your stories and/or art! Everyone, Solo author/artists, Traditional authors/artists, and Tandem authors/artists are required to fill out the form! The survey will remain open through October 12th to give everyone time to fill it out.

The most important thing when filling out the survey is make sure you use the same email address that was used in your sign-up, so that I can check you off. If you do not remember which email you used to sign-up, a copy of the Google Survey should have been sent to you when you signed up. If you still cannot find it, please contact me and I will check on my end!

This survey will be just like the last one and it is mandatory!!! The survey will remain open until Monday, October 12th. Missing two mandatory check-ins in a row will cause you to be dropped from the Bang, so make sure to get the survey done ASAP!

5th DCU Bang Check-in - Mandatory

If you have not been in contact with your author or artist for some time, please reach out and let your partner know how you're doing, because Date Claiming has begun as well! Information on how posting will work will be available in a few days, though you can check out 2019’s posting guidelines right now. Works are due October 25-31. Stories will begin revealing on November 1st. We’re almost there, everyone!

Now is a good time to get an Ao3 account and start familiarizing yourself with the site! I’ve got some invites, but I only want to hand those out closer to posting time. It can sometimes take more than 2 weeks to get an invitation, so the sooner you get in queue, the better!

Come drop by the Discord server for some sprints and encouragement, if you need a push! The server is also a great place to find a beta reader, should you want one. Beta readers are not mandatory this year, but highly advised!

If you have any questions, concerns, here is the Page-A-Mod Post You can also contact the mods via, dcubang@gmail.com, or by sending a PM on DreamWidth/LiveJournal to [personal profile] luciferxdamien, or sending a DM on Discord to LuciferxDamien.

Twitter and Tumblr are NOT the quickest way to get in touch with me, as those accounts are not checked as frequently. If your matter is urgent, Discord or email are the quickest way to receive a response!

Hello everyone! Here is the 3rd DCU Bang check-in! This check-in is NOT mandatory, but it's a good idea to take a look at the check-in survey, to see how the rest of the mandatory check-ins will be handled.

This check-in is non-mandatory for both authors and fanworkers! This is also the last day of the Grace Period, where Traditional participants can drop out, without consequences! If something has come up, or you feel you cannot continue your art or story, please contact me ASAP, either via email, dcubang@gmail.com, or on the Discord server!

Check-In #3 Survey

Hello everyone, sorry for running late! Here is the second check-in for DCU Bang 2020! This check-in is NOT mandatory, but it's a good idea to take a look at the check-in survey, to see how the rest of the mandatory check-ins will be handled.

The check-in survey is for author’s only, but there is some fanworker information below, so please be sure to check that out! The survey is to track story progress, but don’t stress out! Even if you haven’t started yet, please still fill out the survey.

The most important thing when filling out the survey is make sure you use the same email address that was used in your sign-up, so that I can check you off. This check-in is for author’s only, so fanworkers, sit tight. The survey is to track story progress, but don’t stress out! Even if you haven’t started yet, please still fill out the survey. Hello everyone! The Grace Period has now ended. What this means is that Traditional authors and artists cannot drop out without consequences. Solo authors can drop out at any time, and Tandem teams can drop out together at any time, even now that the grace period has ended.

The survey is a bit different this time! There are 3 sections, email, authors, and artists. Only the email section is required, so if you are only an artist, you can skip the author section, and if you are an author, you can skip the artist section! Remember to go to the end and hit submit!

4th Mandatory Check-in Form

This survey will remain open until Monday, August 12th, to give everyone enough time to contact their authors or artists. Missing two mandatory check-ins in a row will cause you to be dropped from the Bang, so make sure to get the survey done ASAP!

Now is also a good time to get an Ao3 account and start familiarizing yourself with the site! I’ve got some invites, but I only want to hand those out closer to posting time. It can sometimes take more than 2 weeks to get an invitation, so the sooner you get in queue, the better!

Hi everyone! It's that time again, check-in! This will largely work the same, with a Google Survey, now there is an artist option added in! Remember, this is a mandatory check-in, so please try to get to it when you can, it should only take a moment or two!

I'll be leaving the survey open for 2 weeks this time instead of one, since it was very soon after the first round of claims closed. This way, artists and authors have time to get in contact with each other and make a plan, hopefully without feeling too rushed!

Check-in Form

I am opening second claims and they will run from Saturday, July 6th to Saturday, July 13th. This gives artists a chance to claim a story they missed out on that they were looking forward to, or if there are any more artists were thinking of joining up, now is the time! Each story can have a total of 3 artists working on it, so I will update the claimed listed periodically. I don't want authors to get overwhelmed coordinating with too many people! (The first claim counts as 1 artist, so each story can be claimed an additional 2 times during the second claiming period.) I can only guarantee one artist per story! Artists, please don't take on more than you are reasonably sure you can finish!

Second Claims!

Grace Period

This is a chance for Traditional Path artists to get in contact with their authors and vice versa. This is a very important time for both artists and authors to consider if they can finish by October, and if either party determines they cannot finish on time, they have a chance to drop out without consequences, and will be welcomed back for DCU Bang 2020. Once it is August 1st, Traditional Path artists and authors cannot drop out without consequences. However, if a major life event happens after this, just get in contact with me, I don't want to punish anyone that has a major life event!

Hello everyone! This is the second author check-in for DCU Bang 2019! This check-in is mandatory for authors. Missing two check-ins in a row will cause you to be dropped from DCU Bang 2019 automatically, so make sure to fill out the Google Form, it should only take a minute or two of your time.

This check-in is for author’s only, so artists, sit tight! The survey is to track story progress, but don’t stress out! Even if you haven’t started yet, please still fill the survey out. This really helps me further on, when story claiming begins, just so I have an idea of where everyone is at and what to expect!

Check-In #2 Survey

Story Claiming and Rough Drafts:

Rough drafts will be accepted between Saturday, June 22nd and Wednesday, June 26th. The minimum word counts that will be accepted are 3k for the Mini-bang and 6k for the Big Bang. For more information on what will be expected for the rough drafts, here is the 1st check-in post that has all that info.

There is a change in how stories will be claimed by artists this year. In past years, artists would claim stories on an LJ or DW post and everything would be visible for authors and artists. This year. I am going to use a Google Form for artists to fill out with their story claim choices, and only the mods will be able to see the claim choices.

I am hoping this helps with the anxiety authors usually feel watching stories get snatched up by artists. This will also allow artists to bid on the stories they want, rather than needing to sift through comments to see if their choices are already taken. Using a Google Form also keeps things much more organized for the mods, too!

Results with current claims will be posted after 6 hours, or after all of the stories are claimed, whichever comes first. If there are still stories needing to be claimed after 6 hours, an announcement with currently claimed stories will go out, along with whatever stories still need to be claimed. When all stories have been claimed, second artist claims will open, on Sunday, June 30th, 3PM MDT at the earliest!

It is very important to only claim stories you would absolutely be happy with creating artwork for! I will always do my absolute best to match artists with their first choices, but this may not be possible, especially since artists will not be able to check if their choices have already been claimed. Artists will need to select at least 3 stories, and up to 5 on the form, before it can be submitted.

Hello everyone! This is the first check-in for DCU Bang 2019! This check-in is NOT mandatory, but it's a good idea to take a look at the check-in survey, to see how the rest of the mandatory check-ins will be handled!

Check-In #1 Survey

Regarding story claims and rough drafts:

60% of your story will be due, if you want your story claimed by an artist. Tandem and solo authors do not send in rough drafts. It’s still a good goal to reach for tandem and solo authors! 60% is fairly nebulous, and all I am really looking for is about half of a rough draft written, and the rest mostly figured out. And I do mean rough, it’s okay if you know you need to go back and fix some things. This isn’t expected to be polished writing!

In numbers, I will be expecting 3k minimum words for the 5k Mini-Bang and 6k minimum words for the 10k Big Bang, and then the rest outlined with an ending in mind. This is so that artists have at least a few scenes to pick from to create something! It will also be really important to communicate with your artist, in the case of a major story change!!!

If you are writing a story that will be significantly longer than the 5k/10k minimum, try to get as close to 60% finished as you can by story claims, but I do understand that it may not be possible for a really long story! Please use your best judgement and decide for yourself if you can get your story finished by October.

The second second check-in is June 15th, and it is mandatory! Rough drafts will be accepted between June 22 and June 26th. Story previews will be posted on the DreamWidth, LiveJournal, and Tumblr accounts, however, story claims will only be accepted on the DreamWidth account, or via email, on a first-come, first-served basis. Artists claiming a story through any other method will have their claims rejected. There will be more info on this in the second check-in, and of course full instructions will be provided once rough drafts are due, but if anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I can’t help if I don’t know there is an issue!

(Claiming will open on Monday, October 1st at 12PM (Noon) MDT. Just as with story claiming for artists, the DreamWidth post is the only one that will be unlocked for comments; the LiveJournal post will be updated with claims for reference only, but it will not be unlocked for comments to avoid confusion.)

Hey everyone! This is it, the DCU Bang 2018 is nearing the end! You have all been doing so awesome and I'm really excited to see what everyone has been writing and creating!

This is the post that will be used for the mandatory check-in and claiming a posting date for this year's DCU Bang. Posting will run from Monday, October 15th until Sunday, November 18th. Each day will have three slots. For those that have been doing the DCU Bang for a few years, this is an additional slot from previous years! Some days might have three stories and/or art, and other days may not have any at all, and this is okay. Don't worry about trying to fill out the posting schedule completely, just pick the days that are going to work best for you and your group!

This check-in is mandatory. Claiming a posting date here counts as the final check-in for you and your entire creative group! =D Please check with all co-authors and/or artists you are working with that the date you choose to post works for all of you! If you have lost contact with your author or artist, please let me know ASAP and I will give them a nudge and we can go from there! It's better to let me know sooner rather than later, so I can arrange a pinch hit artist more quickly.

And remember to check out the Posting Guidelines!

Tandem and Solo Participants:

Tandem and Solo author participants must send in a summary of your story before claiming a posting date, or include it in your date claiming comment! (Submitting a summary is to make sure you're ready to post, or almost ready to post.) A summary doesn't need to be anything more than 3-5 sentences of what your fic is about, and nor does this need to be your final summary for when you post.

Summary Example: While in search of a missing Batman, Clark lets his closeness and feelings for Bruce get himself caught. Now both Superman and Batman are in the clutches of Hell Mistress Tala, and she's intent on causing as much chaos as she possibly can, and what better way than invading the minds of the two most powerful members of the Justice League? She is well on her way to chaos, but no plan can ever go smoothly; Batman has lost his memories due to her efforts, and invading Superman's mind is not as easy as she had thought. But, how long can Superman hold out before she fully invades his mind, and just what sort of information and truths will she uncover while in there?

If you attempt to claim a date before sending me this summary, your claim will not be honoured. You can send me this summary anytime between now and before you claim your date, or you can include your summary with your date claim! Summaries can be submitted to me via email (dcubang@gmail.com), PM here, or a DM on Discord.

Amnesty Period:

If you accidentally miss your posting date, this is okay! Sometimes things slip our minds or life just happens. Every Sunday, I will be sending out a reminder to anyone that missed their posting date and give them the opportunity to post on that Sunday, or any day between Monday, November 19th and Friday, November 30th. That will be this year's amnesty period. Any story/art posted by the end of November (in your own timezone) will be counted as posted and there will be no consequences at all, even if you missed your assigned date!

Dates I'll Be Away:

I just want to let everyone know that I will be away a few times in October and so responses might be slow, but I will do my best to get back to you ASAP if you need me during these times!

October 2-6: I'll be travelling and not have the greatest cell service, especially on October 2nd and October 6th. The other days, I will have some internet, but I won't have cell service at all. (I tend to answer emails or DMs on my phone a lot, so there will most likely be delays as I won’t be able to do that during these days.)

October 18-21: I'll be at a convention Thursday, October 18th through Sunday, October 21st, and so the posting reminder emails will go out on Monday, October 22nd, which I have taken off from work to have a vacation from my vacation. xD While at the convention, I will be checking everything at least a few times a day, most likely at night, so if you need me, send a message and I'll try to get back to you ASAP!

I will be doing my best to keep in touch during these times, and I will try to get back to people within 72 hours. If 4 or 5 days have passed, go ahead and send another message to me, because it is entirely possible I missed something! You're not bothering me at all, I promise. =D

If I'm not online on the DCU Bang Discord, don't hesitate to send me a message anyway and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! And of course, you can use the Page-A-Mod Post, or send me an email at dcubang@gmail.com!

How to Claim A Date:

Only one member from your author/artist group needs to select a date. Please don't have all members comment with the same story/dates, it'll be very confusing for everyone involved! Discuss with your group (unless you are working Solo, of course) and decide on dates together and who will be claiming your posting dates. Date claiming can be done on this post or through email, as long as the following information is included! (Just as with story claiming, I will check the timestamps on comments and emails to keep things fair, as this is first come, first served.)

When you comment, please list three dates that you, and/or your group, would be able to post and include the following information. If any of the following information is not included, you will be asked to repost your comment with the missing info added in, and your dates will not be held for you!

Example:
Dates: October 31, November 2, November 8 (List three dates in the order of most preferred to least preferred!)
Author(s): LuciferxDamien (If you have co-author(s), make sure to list all of them!)
All Fanworkers: 2bnallegory (If you are working with one or more fanworker/artist, please list them all here. If you are Solo, you can put N/A or Solo here.)
Title of Fic: The Smoke in Your Eyes (Title)
Summary:
While in search of a missing Batman, Clark lets his closeness and feelings for Bruce get himself caught. Now both Superman and Batman are in the clutches of Hell Mistress Tala, and she's intent on causing as much chaos as she possibly can, and what better way than invading the minds of the two most powerful members of the Justice League? But, how long can Superman hold out before she fully invades his mind, and just what sort of information and truths will she uncover while in there?
(This is primarily for Solo and Tandem participants that have not yet submitted a summary to me, but feel free to include a summary, if you want!)

Here's the form with HTML if you want to use that! If you signed up for two stories, please use the form twice. I need this information for all author/artist groups and stories. (The HTML is not necessary, just so long as all the information I need is included.)

As stated in the Posting Guidelines, all stories must be posted in their entirety on your posting date. Multiple chapters are fine; if you have a 16 chapter fic and your posting date is October 26th, all 16 chapters must be posted on October 26th.

I will be doing my best to keep the list updated, but as I am going out of town on Tuesday, October 2nd, there will most likely be delays. I really appreciate your understanding if things are slow to be updated! It’s a good idea to take a look through the comments and see if a day has been filled up. You can always go back and edit or add to your comment if need be!

Okay, with all of that out of the way, here are the dates!

Hello again everyone! Just as the first check-in, this second check-in is not mandatory, but there is a lot of information here that is important for both artists and authors, so please read through! (It also helps me to know who is still with us and it’s fun to share progress, so if you can, please drop in and leave a comment. =D)

Just as with the first check-in, feel free to share what you've been working on! I love hearing about all your stories, and the sense of community and sharing that this gives! =D

I’ve got another progress survey to fill out! It’s not necessary, but it does let me know where everyone is at the moment, and if someone needs help finding a beta-reader! Second DCU Bang Progress survey

Everyone should have gotten this check-in emailed to them, if you have not, please let me know ASAP. Rough drafts will be due August 21st and if I do not have a valid and working email, that can cause your story to not go up for artist claims!!!

Artist sign-ups are still open! So if you or someone you know is thinking about signing up as an artist, please be sure to do that! Artist sign-ups close September 1st. If you are an artist that is waiting for claims to open to decide to sign-up, this is fine! Just remember to sign-up before or soon after you claim a story, I must have an email in order to match you with your author! Summaries go up a day before claiming begins, so be on the lookout for that on August 24th. Stories open up for claiming August 25th, at Noon MDT.

It’s time to start thinking about finding a beta reader if you do not have one already! The DCU Bang Discord server has a channel dedicated to finding beta readers, so if you haven’t joined already, feel free to do so! DCU Bang Discord server The Discord server is a great way to keep in touch with people, find motivation (we’ve got a sprint bot for writing!), and pair up with a beta-reader or even an artist! We’ve also got a channel for finding a cheerleader, if you’re just needing an extra little push without a full-on beta reader. =D (But a beta-reader is still required!!!)

Now is also a good time to be considering dropping out if you need to. It’s okay! Life gets in the way and so long as you drop out before your story is claimed by an artist there are no consequences. =D If you are feeling like you want to continue your story, but are not sure you can finish, consider switching to the solo track, where there are no consequences if you can’t finish your story by the end of November.

Please read through everything regardless of what track you chose!

Artists: Hello there! If you have signed up as a "Tandem Artist", make sure you're in contact with your author! If your author has not responded in awhile, give them another nudge, and if they do not respond, please let me know ASAP!

If you signed up as a "Solo Artist", hopefully your solo piece or pieces are going well! Feel free to drop into the DCU Bang Discord server to share your progress!

If you signed up as a "Traditional Artist", well you've got a little more time until claims begin, but you can still come take part in the discussions on the DCU Bang Discord server, and here in the comments as well! If a story strikes your fancy, consider reaching out to the author and pairing up with them early!

10k Traditional Big Bang Authors: 10k Traditional Bang Authors, now is the time to decide if you have to step down to the 5k Mini-Bang. Maybe your story doesn't want to be told in a lot of words! This is okay. As long as you are certain your story will reach at least 5k, or already has reached 5k and you are unsure it will stretch to 10k, you can ask to switch to the 5k Mini-Bang. This will not affect your eligibility to receive art at all. It's an option to make things a little less stressful, if you feel your story won't make it to 10k! (And if it still goes over 10k, that's great too!)

5k Mini-Bang Authors: For the 5k Mini-Bang, there is no option to drop to an even lower word count, however, if you signed up as "Traditional", you can switch to "Solo" with no consequences if you can't finish. If you still wish to have your story claimed for art, try to get at least 80% finished, which is 4k words, by August 21st. Don't stress and push yourself! This is supposed to be fun, after all! It's okay to switch to the "Solo" track, or even drop out, if you need to. So long as your story has not been claimed by an Artist, there are no consequences to dropping out.

Traditional Author 10k/5k: If you chose to have your story claimed at the end of August, please read through this carefully. If you're nearing the end of your story, that's great! (And feel free to share a snippet in the comments!!!) If you are unsure if you will finish, 10k Traditional Authors may step down to the 5k Mini-Bang, or choose to go "Solo", 5k Mini-Bang Authors can choose to go "Solo". The other option, of course, is to drop out, and this is okay! Life happens, things get in the way, and muses flee. So long as your story has not been claimed by an Artist, there are no consequences to dropping out. Also! Make sure you've got a beta, or are looking for one if you do not yet have one! All stories, 10k or 5k in length, must be beta-read by at least one person!

Tandem Author 10k/5k: If you chose to work with an artist from the beginning, please read through this carefully. Hopefully you have been in good contact with your artist and things are going well! However, if your artist has not been in contact with you, try to reach out to them one more time, and then let me know ASAP if they still do not reply! In the case of an artist that needs to drop out for any reason beforehand or has stopped responding, the author can still have their story put up for Claims on August 24th! If both the artist and author need to drop out, there are no consequences, at any time, even after posting has begun!

Solo Author 10k/5k: If you chose not to be paired with an artist, please read through this carefully. Any author signed up as "Solo" has the opportunity to change to "Traditional", however, only do this if you are absolutely certain you can finish. If you are still unsure that you can finish but want to try, the "Solo" track has no consequences, should you be unable to finish!

Unsure Author 10k/5k: If you chose "Unsure" during your sign-up, please read this very carefully! Any author who signed up as "Unsure" must pick either solo or traditional. A separate email to all authors who chose "Unsure" will be going out soon, and a reply is required, so I know what track to switch you to! If I do not hear back from an author signed up as "Unsure" before the time rough drafts are due, you will automatically be switched to the "Solo" track.

Rough drafts are due August 21st, and 80% of your story must be complete by then, to have your story go up for Claims! At least 8k/4k needs to be complete, with the rest at least outlined and an ending in mind. I will be checking for the minimum word count when rough drafts are sent in to me, however, for example, 80% of a 20k fic is 16k, so keep this in mind! If I do not get a rough draft before Summaries go up on August 24th, you will automatically be switched to the Solo Author track.

More information about rough draft submission will be coming out a few days before August 21st, when rough drafts are due. (I plan to get the rough draft submission information post out around August 15th, so those that need to submit a little early can do so! However, if this is still not early enough contact me ASAP. If you need to submit your rough draft before August 15th, email me at: dcubang (at) gmail (dot) com, with the subject "Early Rough Draft Submission (username)" and the username you signed up under. After that, I will email out all the important information needed to submit your rough draft so your story can be put up for claims!)

Whew! I know that was a lot to get through! Thank you everyone for reading through this, and as always, never hesitate to get in contact with me, either at Page-A-Mod, the Discord server, or emailing me at dcubang (at) gmail (dot) com.

Now! Let’s see some snippets, if you’re comfortable sharing, of course!

Hello everyone! Welcome to our first [community profile] dcu_bang check-in post! This check-in isn’t mandatory, but I’d like to know how you’re all doing!

As always, please feel free to use this as a place to share snippets from your fic. Are you excited about something you’ve written? Worried? Stumped? Leave an excerpt of your fic in the comments! We’d all love to get a sneak peek =D

Authors, how are things going? Have you been able to get your story started, or are you still waiting for things to come together? Have you managed to get your rough draft done already? Don’t worry if you’re not finished, rough drafts aren’t due until the end of August!

Here’s a little poll on your progress to fill out, if you want! DCU Bang Progress

And hey, for anyone that is still on the fence about joining up, 5k Mini-Bang sign-ups are still open for two more weeks and artist sign-ups are open until September 1st.

Artist Sign-Up Post

At least one beta-reader is mandatory for this challenge, so if you’re without a beta-reader, consider joining our DCU Bang Discord server, where there is an entire channel dedicated to finding and offering to be a beta-reader! Plus it’s a great place to keep in touch with everyone and find some motivation and inspiration! This is also where finding a cheerleader, or teaming up with an artist early will be taking place.

Everyone is welcome to pimp and promote and otherwise pass along info for the DCU Bang! Even reblogging our Tumblr posts is a big help and helps spread the word around!

Also, it is extremely important that everyone has received their welcome email!!! If you have not, please send an email to dcubang (at) gmail.com ASAP! I’ve had some emails that were incorrect and bounced back.

If you have any other questions, concerns, or comments of any type, feel free to contact me on the DCU Bang Discord server, send an email, or leave a message at the Page-A-Mod post and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

Have fun writing and creating everyone! =D
