dcu_bangAuthor Sign-Ups for DCU Bang 2018 Are Now Closed!!!
This year there are two author sign-ups, one for the 10k Traditional big Bang, and one for the 5k New Mini-Bang.
There are 4 paths to choose from:
Solo Author: Choose this path if you do not want to work with an artist at all. This is a great option if you are worried you may not be able to complete your story on time and do not want to let down an artist. There are also no consequences should you not be able to complete your work on time, and you will not be banned from next year's DCU Bang! This is also the option to choose if you want to make art for your own story.
Tandem: Choose this option if you wish to work with an artist throughout the entire process. This is a great option to choose if you already have an artist in mind to work with! Should either the author or the artist not be able to finish and both agree to drop out of the Bang, there are no consequences! If either the author or artist does not complete their work and the one who finished wishes to post for this year's Bang, then the party that did not finish their work will be banned from next year's challenge. (However, please do not hesitate to contact me if something comes up! I am not going to unfairly punish people if life gets crazy, but I can't know the situation if it is not brought to my attention!)
Traditional: Choose this option if you wish to have your story claimed by an artist at the end of August! Rough drafts are due August 21st in order to be claimed by an artist. A rough draft, for the purposes of this Bang, is defined as at least 80% of the work completed, with the final 20% at least plotted out. If you are doing the 10k Traditional Bang, that means at least 8,000 words needs to be submitted. If you are doing the 5k Mini Bang, at least 4,000 words needs to be submitted. However, if, for example, the story that you are writing is 20k, at least 16,000 words needs to be submitted!
Should either the author or the artist not be able to finish and both agree to drop out of the Bang, there are no consequences! If either the author or artist does not complete their work and the one who finished wishes to post for this year's Bang, then the party that did not finish their work will be banned from next year's challenge. (However, please do not hesitate to contact me if something comes up! I am not going to unfairly punish people if life gets crazy, but I can't know the situation if it is not brought to my attention!)
I am not sure: Choose this option if you're unsure of which path you want to take! You can always make up your mind later!

General writing guidelines:
-All stories must have at least one beta reader, regardless of which Bang type you choose, Traditional 10k or Mini 5k. If you don't have a beta reader, there will be a channel set up on the Discord server for finding a beta-reader. If you still cannot find a beta-reader on your own, get in contact with me ASAP and I will help you find someone!
-Sequels are great! If you write a sequel to something you've written in the past, include a link to the original story in your author's notes, so people can read from the beginning if they haven't already. =D
-In order for your story to qualify for this challenge, you cannot post it anywhere online until the due date. On that day, you can post it wherever you'd like - Livejournal, Dreamwidth, AO3, your personal website, or anywhere else that can be publicly viewed - and link to it here. Just don't put it up before the reveal! (Posting details will be given closer to that time.)
-If you need some inspiration, there will be a channel in the Discord server for prompts! Conversely, if you have an idea you don’t know what to do with, go ahead and leave it in the prompt channel! Authors can take the prompts as literally or as figuratively as they want - use part of one, use three or four, use half of one and half of another. It's entirely up to you!
This also means, should you choose to leave a prompt, it is for anyone to use, in whichever way they want. If there is an idea that you want done in a very specific manner, it may not be the best for you to leave it for this Bang, as all authors are free to use prompts however they see fit.
-You can sign up to write two stories for this challenge. These can be individual or group sign-ups. (To clarify, you can sign up twice by yourself, or once by yourself and once as part of a group, or twice as part of a group.) Just make sure to complete a separate sign-up for each story!

New Things for DCU Bang 2018:
I am setting up a DCU Bang Discord that shall be ready to go this weekend. The Discord server is going to replace the Find a Partner, Prompt, and Social posts of previous years, hopefully making it easier to find beta-readers, cheerleaders, and artists! The hope is that the Discord server will help us build a community and keep in touch with each other! =D
Another reason to join is that Discord is a fantastic way to get in contact with me! The Page-A-Mod post is not going anywhere, and you can always PM or send an email to dcubang@gmail.com, but I will probably be able respond to a PM on Discord the fastest!
And last, but not least, be sure to join and friend this community - all check-ins and reminders will come through here, so you'll have to watch us to stay informed!
